Calvaert in Bologna, he then followed the example of his older contemporaries Albani and \b \cf4 \ATXht1264 Reni\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 and, around 1595, entered the CarracciÆs Accademia degli Incamminati. In 1602 he moved to Rome, where he was introduced into
the circle of \b \cf4 \ATXht1255 Annibale Carracci \b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 and collaborated with him on the Galleria Farnese. The study of \b \cf4 \ATXht1201 Raphael\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 led him to develop an ideal of classicistic painting in which the figures are
harmoniously arranged in airy and well-balanced compositions. He also painted important pictures with landscapes, in which the feeling for nature is transformed into vast scenes of classically idealized beauty.
